Leo Lucassen: Revolutionary Biographies in a Wider Socio-political Context
Revolutionary Biographies in a Wider Socio-political Context
In this lecture I will use the vast collection of the International Institute of Social History and focus on two interrelated aspects: 1) Putting revolutionaries in a wider context of life course analyses and by focusing on the cross-cultural effects of their (global) migratory patterns; 2) by comparing activities and ideas of revolutionaries who were engaged with the Russian Revolution and its aftermath with other ‘freedom fighters’, such as the International volunteers in the Spanish Civil War and current Jihadist fighters in Syria and Iraq.
